Let me start by saying, I love LOVE Imagine Dragons. Their songs have been a huge inspiration to me when writing my novel. Each one spoke to me directly when getting into my character. This show was amazing. The opening act, The Naked and Famous were very good, though it was hard to understand them, don't know if it was because of the mics or what, but I had no idea what they were singing the entire time, but the songs were catchy. When Imagine Dragons came on it was so thrilling. They play a very good live concert, sounds so great and on key. The drummer, bass and guitar solos took my breath away.
Just by listening to the album, you can't tell how talented these guys really are, but on stage they ROCK! The show started about 7:30, we were out of there a little after 11. The show is surprisingly family friendly as well. This was my first rock concert (I'm in my late 20's, I know!), and I wasn't sure what to expect, I wanted to bring my 7 year old but my husband said it was a bad idea, but when we got there, we were surrounded by teens, older folk, young children. I wish we had brought our son. I hope they come back soon because this was by far a great concert! This was on Feb 24, 2014 at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, TN.
Imagine Dragons inspired my writing, read the novel here!

While I wrote the Ash POV, I found myself struggling with a male character mindset. Character development is huge for me. I put alot of research and time into Ash. I used Imagine Dragon lyrics as the driving force behind Ash's voice. I used a Co-Worker (who was young and a little immature) as inspiration for getting into a man's mindset. I wanted Ash to be a character people could understand. A man torn between two worlds. There is the need to be part of the world he grew up in (the keepers) and the need to have fun and be free in the Ethereal Underground. He keeps his good emotions tied up, and lives on his anger and violence. My favorite songs are listed below and how they inspired certain parts of Ash.
Fallen- This song fits the fallen so well! I used this toward the end when they were with the fallen, it feels like an anthem sung to the seraphs and humans.
Demons- This song was the first one I listened too. Ash doesn't feel good enough, doesn't feel deserving of someone as good as Annalise. He is struggling with what is good and bad. He isn't sure who to trust anymore.
Amsterdam- This song inspired the scenes with Jedzia, when Ash is feeling sad, feeling as if he had let her down. Let all the keepers down, blames himself.
Nothing Left to say/ Rocks- This one was used towards the end of the book. Ash has realized that he and Annalise will never work out, that thier world are to different. He wants her, but isn't sure where they go from here. The bond is to strong.
Who we are- What I used when talking about the people of Cabalin, feeling opressed,
Pictures added soon!
